Cam Belts and Timing Chain

The Cam Belt may also be known as the timing belt or Timing Chain and it is essential that it is changed before it breaks. A breakage can cause catastrophic damage to an engine as the Cambelt synchronises the rotation of the crankshaft and the camshaft so that the engine's valves open and close at the correct times.

All vehicle manufacturers recommend different intervals for when a Cambelt should be changed, ranging from 4 - 6 Years or 40,000 - 100,000 Miles. You should refer to your vehicle handbook to confirm when yours should be changed.
